Emily Searcy is the Upper Elementary Teacher for the 4th-6th grades at Wheaton Montessori School.
Emily began volunteering for the school when it was founded in 2000. She joined the school full-time in the spring of 2004 after working several years for a Chicago non-profit. Before moving to Chicago, she served in the Peace Corps for two years, where she taught English language and literature to elementary and high school students in Biratnagar, Nepal.
Emily received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from Miami University (Ohio), her Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Akron, and her Montessori Elementary Teaching certification from the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota in 2006.
Throughout her educational journey, Emily has been fortunate to have exceptional teachers. She fondly recalls Mrs. Gardner, her fourth-grade teacher at St. Raphael, who captivated the class by reading Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing aloud. Emily treasured the laughter and joy shared with her friends and classmates during those times. Additionally, she remembers Dr. Dawn Trouard, a graduate school professor who changed the trajectory of her adult life.
Emily has too many favorite books to name one most beloved title, but she loves how rich the world of children's literature is today and enjoys finding the next great book to share with her class.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Emily loves reading, movies, animals, and learning more about the natural world. When not in the classroom you can find her enjoying spending time with her family and her (too many) pets.
