Education through Physical Work: Manipulation of Materials

Dr. Maria Montessori regarded the hands as the tool of the mind.   By using specially-designed materials in the classrooms, Wheaton Montessori School students hone their fine motor skills, work to manipulate physical objects that represent complex ideas, and develop their hand-eye coordination.  All of these skills require the child’s deep concentration.

Through repetition, the child obtains mastery and competence.  As the childs motor skills improve and ability to concentrate lengthens, the child becomes more independent and complete.
