Early Elementary Reading Recommendation

Categories: Booklists / Read

From Mrs. Schneider:

I have recently discovered a great series called the Heartwood Hotel by Kallie George.  It is great to read aloud as I enjoyed it just as much as my daughter.  My daughter (currently a 2nd grader) has enjoyed it so much that she reads them each multiple times and anxiously awaits for the next book in the series.  The first book is the series is Heartwood Hotel: A True Home.

From the book, “Heartwood Hotel”

The series takes place at The Heartwood Hotel in the Fernwood Forest. The hotel is for all forest animals and has an excellent motto, “We live by protect and respect, not by tooth and claw.”  The series follows an orphan mouse Mona who finds herself at the hotel after escaping some danger in the forest.  Each book focuses on a different season and changes – both outside in nature and in terms of the relationships between animals. The theme of friendship and acceptance is prevalent in all of the books.

I highly recommend these books for readers looking for a new series or for the “next step” after beginning chapter books.  It also has a very cute website that kids can visit as well after reading the book.

I hope you enjoy this delightful stories as much as we do!

Happy Reading!
