Over the course of two weeks in May, three Lower Elementary students were lucky enough to accompany Mrs. Fortun to Wool & Co in St. Charles to learn to knit.
Mrs. Fortun hosted the event, which she donated as a “Teacher Experience” during this year’s annual silent auction. The winning students were treated to beautiful yarn, personalized instruction, and extra time with Mrs. Fortun. Over those two weeks, each student (and Mrs. Fortun’s daughter, Scout) created a knit headband, learning how to cast-on, complete the knit stitch, and cast-off.
On the last day of the class, the group walked around the corner wearing their finished masterpieces to Smallcakes to enjoy a sweet treat together.
Thank you Mrs. Fortun for donating your time outside of school! Thank you also to Wool & Co. in St. Charles for hosting our students and offering the “Knitting 101” class. According to the attendees, Smallcakes is worth the drive!
