Part-Time Preschool that’s Five-Days-a-Week?

Wheaton Montessori School is a 5-day-a-week program, regardless of age.  Part-time students attend for a half-day from 8:30 to noon, rather than just attending a few days each week.  This is one of the hardest mental hurdles for prospective parents, especially of young two- and three-year-olds.

Why do we insist on 5-days-a-week for all children?

The need for five days a week (rather than 1, 2, or 3) is based on the young child’s very strong sense and desire for order – in time and place – at this age.  The younger the child, the stronger the need to know what comes next each day, to have a consistent schedule, and to exist in an unchanging and predictable environment.

The continuity of one day to the next is what carries the child through and creates momentum in their learning cycle.  We often hear from families that their children complain on Saturdays that they couldn’t come to school.
