“A child, more than anyone else, is a spontaneous observer of nature” – Maria Montessori
It was a pleasure to watch the wonder of the children as they observed the metamorphosis of caterpillars to butterflies over the past five weeks. The observation chair was consistently occupied, and the community was attuned to their rebirth as butterflies and their every move throughout the day. “Look! There are three butterflies now!” “They are coming out of the chrysalis.” “They are flapping.” “This one is eating..he is using his proboscis.” Along with observing, we studied the parts of the butterfly, which inspired some lovely art and writing work. We said goodbye to our winged friends today, and wish them happy and productive lives. -Mrs. Carrillo
