Rehearsing for a Favorite Day

Categories: For Parents / Holidays / Visiting Wheaton Montessori / WMS Programs

Every year on Grandparents’ Day (and during the rehearsal the day before), we close with an all-school sing-a-long of “Over the River.”

Our students are busy practicing to be able to joyfully and exuberantly sing with their family and friends.  We’ve closed the Grandparents’ Day performance with this tradition for nearly 20 years; it’s a great way to end the special day!

If you’re able to join us for Grandparents’ Day, please plan on singing along!  Here are the lyrics to the song as our students will be performing it:

Over the River and Through the Woods

Over the river and through the woods
to Grandmother’s house we go.
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifting snow.
Over the river and through the woods
Oh, how the wind does blow.
It stings the toes and bites the nose
as over the ground we go.

Over the river and through the woods
to have a full day of play.
Oh, hear the bells ringing “ting-a-ling ling”
for it’s Thanksgiving Day.
Over the river and through the woods
trot fast, my dapple gray.
Spring o’er the ground just like a hound
hurrah for Thanksgiving Day!

Over the river and through the woods
and straight through the barnyard gate.
It seems that we go so dreadfully slow
it is so hard to wait.
Over the river and through the woods
now Grandma’s cap I spy.
Hurrah for the fun, the pudding’s done. Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!
