A Quality Early Childhood Program CAN…

While preschool and early childhood programs can’t substitute for time spend with parents, an early childhood program can enhance your time as a parent with your child.
In their new book, “Practical Wisdom for Parents: Demystifying the Preschool Years,” Nancy Schulman and Ellen Birnbaum list several things that preschools CAN do. They note that:
“An early childhood program can:
- Provide your child with a safe and happy place to spend time in where everything is child-sized, where the pace and tone is child-centered, and where there are stimulating and interesting things to learn, and friends to make.
- Help your child to take the first steps toward independence – learn how to separate from you, how to be a part of a group, how to play cooperatively, how to listen, and how to take direction from a teacher.
- Help your child acquire the skills and confidence needed to be prepared for the next stages of learning.”
At Wheaton Montessori School, the skills your child learns during the day can make your time with them all the more enriching. We encourage you to come and observe your child during classroom observation. Witness how capable and independent they are at school!
