What Does My Child Do All Day?

The Flow of the Day at Wheaton Montessori School


8:15-8:30 am: Children arrive, hang up coats and backpacks, and greet their teacher

8:30 am: School begins.  Teachers strive to greet each child individually when he or she enters the classroom and appreciate your child arriving on time.

8:30-11:45 am: Morning Work Cycle.  Students choose a variety of individual work in all areas of the classroom, have lessons, participate in singing and stories, and prepare snacks from the Food Work area.  Snacks (apples, carrots, bananas, hard-boiled eggs, and cream cheese and crackers) are available througout the morning.

11:30: Students who nap in the afternoon or leave for noon dismissal play outside, weather permitting.

12:00 pm: Children wash their hands, set the tables, arrange their lunches on plates, and enjoy lunch together.

12:30 – 1:30: Students play outside. Napping students go to the nap room as early as 12:30 pm and sleep as late as 2:40.

1:30 – 3 pm (3:30 for Elementary students): Afternoon Work Cycle.

3:00 pm: Primary (Preschool) students dismiss for the day.  Students with siblings in Elementary or in extended care go outside to play.

3:30 pm: Elementary students dismiss for the day.
