A Bake Sale, A Hurricane, and An Annual Trip

Wheaton Montessori School Elementary students were able to donate $200 today towards Marine Lab’s rebuilding efforts, after the facility suffered significant damage during Hurricane Irma.

Three Upper Elementary students organized a school-wide bake sale and advertised it as a fundraiser for Hurricane victims.  The students sought volunteer bakers, packaged items, and staffed the “check out” during the sale. The parent and student community rose to the challenge, baking up nearly four tables full of treats to sell! In the end, the students raised enough money to send Marine Lab $200, the Red Cross $100, and make a trip to the pet store for classroom pet supplies as well!

We’re looking forward to returning to Marine Lab in 2020, when the Upper Elementary’s “Big Trip” rotation returns to Key Largo, FL.
